Bloomfield College recognizes the importance of a safe and secure campus environment and strives to maintain a campus security program that provides protection for students, faculty and administrative employees.
The Director of Security is primarily responsible for providing a program of campus security and reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs. The campus security staff is provided through a contract with a professional security agency. Supervisory personnel are provided jointly by Bloomfield College and this professional agency. This combination provides unarmed security coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days per week through foot patrols, enforcement of parking regulations, and building access control where applicable. In addition, there is a roving foot patrol officer 24 hours a day.
The Director of Security annually compiles crime statistics and produces an Annual Security Report, which includes crime statistics, security policies, and regulations. This report is available to current students and employees through the campus website. Prospective students and employees are informed that the report is available and can request a copy.
The Bloomfield College Department of Security and a Professional Security Bureau provides services to:
- Prevent crimes on campus.
- Protect members of the Bloomfield College campus through safety and security measures.
- Assist Bloomfield College personnel in routine and emergency situations Jurisdiction of the security officers is limited to the property at the Bloomfield College campus and grounds.
Security officers do not have authority to make arrests, but are authorized to detain persons involved in criminal activity until the Bloomfield Township Police Department responds. In addition to prompt response to emergencies on campus, the Bloomfield Police Department conducts routine vehicle patrols at various times throughout the day and night. Security works closely with the Bloomfield Police Department, Bloomfield Fire Department, and other law enforcement agencies to promptly investigate and resolve all criminal activity.
