BC Community says goodbye to respected colleagues

Eileen Polazzi, assistant vice president for academic services and registrar and Alice Ann Sayler, PhD, professor of chemistry and computer information systems are retiring from the college at the end of the spring term.

Mrs. Polazzi joined Bloomfield College 27 years ago as an adjunct. She worked in several different offices and became the registrar many years ago. Heading up the department of advising and registration, Mrs. Pollazzi quickly became known among her peers as calm, level-headed and the ultimate problem solver. According to Dr. Marion Terenzio, vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty, for whom Mrs. Polazzi worked, “she knew how to balance between the needs of the students and the integrity of the college.” Annette Raymond, associate registrar and director of advising, noted that with Mrs. Polazzi’s excellent managerial skills, the department had been able to run very efficiently without her for a short time while she was recovering from an injury.

Dr. Sayler came to the college 38 years ago and quickly established herself as a master of details. An avid gardener, many who spoke about her tenure used her gardening skills as a metaphor for growing programs within the college. She became involved in the pre-chiropractic program during its earliest stages and watched it grow through partnerships with some of the country’s leading chiropractic colleges. Her colleagues gently teased her about her perchance for details along with expressing their gratitude for her long years of service. Dr. Sayler will be given Professor Emerita status at this year’s commencement.

Both Mrs. Polazzi and Dr. Sayler are leaving great legacies as they move into the next chapter of their lives. Mrs. Polazzi would like to spend time traveling with her husband and Dr. Sayler plans to spend much more time in her garden. The Bloomfield College Community would like to wish them the very best with their new adventures!
