Honors Societies welcome the best in their majors

Bloomfield College has four honors societies on campus; Alpha Chi, which is the national college honor scholarship society; Delta Mu Delta, which is for business majors; Kappa Delta Pi for education majors; and Psi Chi, which is the international psychology honor society. The honors societies induction ceremonies took place in the college library on Sunday, April 21, 2013. Each group celebrated their induction by signing the chapter book, reciting the pledge, receiving their society pin, and of, course, being congratulated by faculty, families and friends.

Nereida Montijo, Coordinator for Serving Learning and Diversity Initiatives, began her opening remarks with the statement, “Don’t follow where the path may lead, go where there is no path and leave a trail.” She continued by elaborating on the value of service to others, from making a difference to just one person to learning about oneself and the power of change.

Best of the BEST feted at a breakfast

According to a 21012 survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, employers indicated the top ten characteristics sought in candidates today. Our student-employees and interns develop these skills and use them accordingly in their positions both on and off campus.

Playing with the future - Robocup Junior

A crowd of fans are gathered around the field cheering on their team. As the ball gets closer to the goal, the din gets louder and when a goal is made, the crowd erupts in congratulatory cheers – and groans. Sounds like a typical Saturday morning on a soccer filed, except that this is taking place on the second floor of the Liberty Science Center and the players have been built and programmed through robotics programs in schools in the New York and New Jersey area.

April Events Calendar

Each month, the Center for Student Leadership and Engagement publishes a calendar full of events and activities for Bloomfield College students. Hotline a Hit

Thursday evening, April 4th, marked another first in Bloomfield College history. It is the first time that the college has partnered with the Montclair Art Museum to present an interactive art exhibit that can be seen both on campus and at the museum.

Fire Department trains at Franklin Street site

For the next two weeks, the Bloomfield Fire Department will be tearing down walls and ceilings, cutting holes in the roofs and basements, and performing search and rescue operations at Bloomfield College’s Franklin Street site. The building, which is located at the corner of Franklin and Broad Streets, is slated to be demolished and a new four-story residence hall will be constructed in its place.
