Bloomfield College Students Honored at Dean's List and Academic Awards Ceremony

Bloomfield College honored some of its best and brightest academics on Friday, October 6, 2017. 130 students were recognized for their academic achievements at the Dean’s List & Academic Awards Ceremony in the Westminster Arts Center’s Van Fossan Theatre.

The Dean's List is published at the end of each semester and is based on academic performance as measured by grades achieved during that semester. Notation of inclusion on the Dean's List is made in the student's permanent record and is included on all transcripts of the student's grades.

Students who are awarded "Honors" designation have achieved a quality point average of 3.5 or higher; those receiving "High Honors" designation have achieved a quality point average of 3.8 or higher.

The audience was greeted with remarks from College President Richard A. Levao and Dr. Tresmaine Grimes, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty. Dr. Carolyn Spies, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, presented the students with their certificates.

Dean’s List recipient and chemistry major, Adrian Smart ’19, served as student speaker, sharing his higher education journey as an international student with the crowd and congratulating his peers on their outstanding achievements.

“My journey has been a difficult one, but Bloomfield College has provided me with a very stable support system,” said Smart, who noted Dr. Maria Vogt, Professor of Chemistry, and Jamilah Moudiab, International Student Advisor, as mentors. “To all my classmates here, I want to congratulate you all on your outstanding academic performances and to encourage you to keep working hard. Don’t be discouraged by the challenges life will throw your way. Be mindful that once you work hard, you will be rewarded as such.”

Dr. Karen Fasanella, Associate Professor of Education, Honors Council Member, Faculty Advisor, and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society, provided closing remarks.

“For perhaps a small number of you, the path to reaching this success has been relatively smooth with little obstacles. However, I think that many of you traveled a slightly different path with multiple bumps, hurdles, and hazards along the way. Whether your path was smooth or rocky, you still achieved wonderful academic success that deserves to be honored this evening,” said Dr. Fasanella. “I would like to challenge you, honorees, if you are not already doing so, to help lift up a fellow student you know is struggling at Bloomfield College so that he/she might experience the success as you have. I challenge YOU to be the supporter.”

Students who achieved Dean’s List in both the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters, as well as students honored with other academic awards, such as the Dean’s Scholarship, were invited to the Ceremony.
