Each month, the Center for Student Leadership and Engagement publishes a calendar full of events and activities for Bloomfield College students. From discussion groups and information fairs to Student Goverment Meetings and even trips off campus, the CSLE Event Calendar provides students with tons of ways get involved!

Thursday evening, April 4th, marked another first in Bloomfield College history. It is the first time that the college has partnered with the Montclair Art Museum to present an interactive art exhibit that can be seen both on campus and at the museum.

Thinking about trying to find a job upon graduation can be daunting. One way to make it less stressful is to learn how to network among professionals. The Bloomfield College alumni offered their knowledge and advice to the graduating class of 2013 and helped them with networking ideas.

For the next two weeks, the Bloomfield Fire Department will be tearing down walls and ceilings, cutting holes in the roofs and basements, and performing search and rescue operations at Bloomfield College’s Franklin Street site.

Through the efforts of Dr. Rashmi Jaipal, a psychology professor who uses her summers to visit social justice organizations around the world, the Hummingbird Project will be visiting Bloomfield College to discuss organic and sustainable farming as it impacts the global economy.

After a tour of the campus and a meeting with the College’s administrators, U.S. Representative Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ 11th District) had a chat session with some of the students from the Honors program and honor societies.

Remember life before cell phones? Many young people today have never known the feeling of stepping inside a phone booth, the overhead light miraculously coming on the moment the door was closed, and trying to root around in purse or pockets for the correct change. They’ve never known the hesitancy of passing a booth and wondering if they should pick up the ringing phone.

“How many of you in this room read the story Little Black Sambo in grammar school?” asked Assemblyman William Payne as he addressed the Black History Month closing ceremony audience.

Among the 3000-plus colleges and universities nationwide, 158 are funded for the Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program funded through the federal TRIO program. The McNair program exists to support students beyond their baccalaureate to achieve a doctoral degree.

During the opening of the Question Bridge exhibit in the Scott H. Kaplan ’02 Art Gallery, Hank Willis Thomas, one of the four collaborating artists on the project, noted that this is the first time the exhibit has been held at a college or university.

Bloomfield College is hosting Question Bridge, a multimedia art show at the Scott H. Kaplan ’02 Art Gallery beginning Thursday February 7, 2013 and closing on Friday, April 26, 2013. An official selection at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, Question Bridge is a video about diversity and provides an intimate perspective of the complex dialogue between African American men.

Bloomfield College kicked off a month of celebrating the history and achievements of African Americans with an opening ceremony that included music, speakers, the raising of the African American flag and a reception.

With funding from the Predominantly Black Institution (PBI) Program Formula Grant, the CHAMPS program at Bloomfield College is hosting an independent film titled From Fatherless to Fatherhood with a discussion with the filmmaker Kobie Brown. The film will be shown at the Van Fossan Theatre at the Westminster Arts Center on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m.
