4-24-2020 Update

Dear Members of the Bloomfield College Community,

The circumstances have been continuously evolving around the current health situation. I continue to be inspired by the extraordinary efforts of our community - students, faculty, staff and administrators - for their resilience, understanding and willingness to adapt.

The College is strategically planning with the health and safety of our community as our top priority.

This will be substantive and clear and will hopefully address a variety of questions:

- The College has moved all summer classes online. A task force has been created to plan for the fall semester developing alternatives should the government delay a return to in person instruction. While we look forward to seeing everyone in person, the health and safety of our community is the priority.

- The College is offering a two for one discount on Summer 2020 courses. For more information on the Summer 2020 "buy one get one" discount, please visit the summer 2020 student services financial service webpage.

- Refunds and Financial Decisions

-Room and Board: The College will be providing resident students with a credit adjustment for Spring 2020 room and board charges due to interruptions caused by COVID-19. For more information please view the FAQs.

- Parking Pass: The College will be providing current students with a credit adjustment for the Spring 2020 parking pass charge due to interruptions caused by COVID-19. For more information please view the FAQs.

- Tuition Payment and Plans: If you are having difficulty making your tuition payments please contact the Student Financial Services Office at financial_services@bloomfield.edu. All payment plan arrangements have been deferred until June 30, 2020. At that time, the College will re-evaluate the possibility of continuing deferment based on the COVID-19 situation.

- Technology

- Students still in need of technology equipment can contact the help desk at helpdesk@bloomfield.edu.

- Students who have borrowed a Chromebook from the College will be contacted directly in regard to the return of the equipment. Students are eligible to purchase their Chromebooks. For more information please contact Debbie_Viaud@Bloomfield.edu.

- Faculty and staff with technology related questions are encouraged to navigate IT support webpage or contact helpdesk@bloomfield.edu.

- Fall Registration

-To make it easier for students to register for next semester, the College has removed the registration holds for many students:

- Financial balance holds of less than $7,000 have been removed.

- Health holds lifted, but all immunization paperwork must be completed prior to the start of the fall semester.

- Housing selection for returning students begins on Friday, April 24 through Sunday April 26. All students will receive instructions via email from the REH Office.

- FAFSA - The New Jersey State Priority Deadline for filing the 2020-2021 Academic Year FAFSA has been extended by the State until June 1, 2020. It is vital that students who are potentially eligible for TAG Grants complete their FAFSA by this deadline to avoid loss of this grant.

- CARES ACT - The College is currently awaiting further guidance on how this allocation should be distributed from the Federal government. The College intends to distribute these funds to eligible students in a timely manner within the accordance of the laws and regulations that govern the higher education industry. The College asks that you remain patient during this time of great unknown and uncertainty and please continue to monitor this site and your emails for further updates.

- The College remains virtually open and all employees will be working remotely in consultation with your supervisor until further notice. We are monitoring the situation and will provide information upon directive from the Governor's Office.

- In accordance with CDC recommendations, College Facilities has increased routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces in all buildings, including door knobs, light switches, and other surfaces.

The President's Office will continue to be the focal point for information. We will proactively send updates to the campus as needed. In addition, continue to view the following website which is updated routinely.

Dear Members of the Bloomfield College Community,

Happy Friday!

As I reflect back on the week, we have much to be proud of as we all continue to navigate through uncertain times. Again, thank you to all members of the Bloomfield College community both on and off-campus who have helped make everything run smoothly.

Yesterday was our second annual Giving Day and I am thrilled to announce that we surpassed our original goal of $20,000 and raised over $35,000 for the Bloomfield College Scholarship Fund. We exceeded our goal from last year in dollars raised and the number of trustees, faculty, staff and alumni who participated! The outpouring of support was truly amazing. Many thanks for all those who joined in these efforts.

Looking toward next week, I want to remind everyone about the Community Forum on the College's Strategic Planning Process on Monday, April 20 at 3 p.m. To register for the Community Forum, please click on the link below:

3-27-2020 Update

Dear Members of the Bloomfield Community,

Happy Friday!

It is my hope your first week of online learning and working remotely has gone well. I especially want to recognize those individuals who remain on campus as we continue to operate. And with that, I wanted to take a moment to check in. Each of you - students, faculty, staff and administrators - are vitally important to the fabric of our community.

As mentioned in earlier emails, please ensure you are communicating to your professors, supervisors and administrators if you have any specific concerns or even ideas on how we can better serve you during these difficult times. I receive updates and feedback daily - so it's very important that your voice is heard.

Each Friday, I will be sending an email with campus updates, resources and stories from members of our campus community on how they are making a difference. I truly hope these are helpful as we navigate this unprecedented time together.

Campus Updates

- Commencement - The College has postponed all Commencement 2020 events including Nurses Pinning, Baccalaureate and Graduation on May 21. The decision was based on the CDC guidelines concerning gatherings of more than 50 people, as well as New Jersey Governor's Executive Order. We know how important these celebrations are for you, your family and to our campus community and are committed to rescheduling the Commencement events as soon as clearance is provided by the CDC and the Governor's Office. We will provide more information on the commencement portal in the coming months.

Resources

- For the most update related COVID-19 campus related updates, please be sure to review Bloomfield College's Coronavirus Web Page.

- If you have any general questions or need specific NJ updates regarding COVID-19, please review the following link.

Making an Impact

- The Frances M. McLaughlin Division of Nursing and the Division of Natural Science and Mathematics has donated protective gear to The Valley Hospital to help combat the spread of COVID-19 and to protect the thousands of healthcare workers at the hospital. Here is the link for more information.

Please share your stories with us. Are you volunteering to get groceries for your elderly neighbor? Have you donated meals to food shelters? The Bloomfield community is special and I want to share the love. Please email advancement@bloomfield.edu.

I sincerely hope you have a restful and enjoyable weekend. Remember to exercise social distancing but take advantage of the many virtual opportunities to connect with friends, family members, colleagues and classmates.

We are in this together!
