Will Bloomfield College close? Should I start looking for another College?
The College has sufficient funds to complete the 2021-2022 academic year but needs to identify a strategic and/or philanthropic partner in order to continue the College’s core mission. Bloomfield College has much to offer. We continue to explore all options for a path forward, and presently do not plan to close. If that changes, we will let our students, faculty and staff know as soon as possible, and we will assist in easing any transition work and with students as they decide their best pathways to completing their degrees. By the beginning of spring semester, we should know more and be able to provide an update.

Should I register for Spring classes? We encourage students to register for the spring semester and pursue their studies as planned while the College continues to explore a pathway forward.

When will I know for sure if the College will remain open for the 2022-2023 school year?
Bloomfield College is committed to finding a higher education and/or transformational philanthropic partner by early 2022, in order to decide if it will stay open for the 2022-2023 school year. By the beginning of the spring semester, we should know more and be able to provide an update.

What factors led to the College's financial challenges?.
Today, Bloomfield has 40% fewer enrolled students than we had a decade ago. The College relies on tuition as its main source of revenue.

When the coronavirus pandemic left many students unable to pay their tuition or even consider enrolling in college, Bloomfield College was especially hard hit. Our students, who are mostly low-income and first-generation college students, came from families struggling to work during the pandemic shutdowns. Prior to COVID-19, as a result of our robust student recruiting efforts, we were on a trajectory to increase enrollment by 8% for the Fall 2020.

Also, since March 2020, most high schools in the state shut their doors to college visits, making it hard for Bloomfield College to do the face-to-face recruiting we relied on to fill our classes.

What is being done by College leadership to keep the College open?
Both the College administration and the Board of Trustees have been fully engaged in responding to the College's financial challenges through budget mitigation measures and exploring a variety of strategies focused on improving the College's financial position and ensuring our mission continues.

How am I supposed to keep it business as usual with all the TV cameras around campus? We are pleased with the attention and media interest in our story. The College has embraced this as an opportunity to get the word out about all the College has to offer. The initial media buzz after our announcement is subsiding. Thank you for your patience.
