Bloomfield College of Montclair State University considers a transfer student one who has attempted 16 or more credits from a regionally accredited college or university after graduating high school or earning a high school diploma equivalent.
All transfer candidates are encouraged to visit the College for a personal interview and tour of the campus.
Transfer Requirements
To be considered for admission to Bloomfield College as a transfer student from another institution, you must submit the following information along with your application:
- $65 application fee
- An official transcript from each college or university you previously attended.
- If you’ve completed fewer than 16 college credits you must also submit a copy of your high school transcript in addition to your college transcripts.
Transcripts of prior collegiate work are evaluated by the Office of the Registrar. At Bloomfield College of Montclair State, we try our best to ensure that most credits transfer, provided they are from a regionally-accredited college/university. For your own reference, we do not give credit for basic skills courses, ESL courses lower than level 100, or courses where the earned grade is lower than a C-.
Articulation Agreements
Articulation agreements are formal contracts between Bloomfield College and other institutions. These agreements ensure that, if you successfully follow a listed program of study, you should be able to transfer with full junior status. Students should contact the transfer counselor for updated information and a list of current agreements.

Direct Transfer Program
If you are transferring from a regionally accredited four-year institution, we do not currently limit the number of credits you may transfer. If you are transferring from a regionally accredited two-year institution (community college) or two-year program, you may transfer up to 60 credits towards your bachelor’s degree.
Because the courses you’ve already taken towards your associate’s degree might not line up exactly with any of our bachelor’s degree’s specific requirements, we can’t guarantee that you’ll be able to complete the remainder of a bachelor’s degree in two years depending on your academic major.
NJTransfer
NJTransfer is a state-wide transfer articulation system that provides web-based assistance when transferring from New Jersey county/community colleges to New Jersey four-year colleges. You can also use the NJ Transfer Web site as a planning tool when selecting courses for your program of study.
NJ Transfer assists students by providing:
- Course equivalencies: Compare courses between two institutions
- Transfer Programs/Events: Search for upcoming transfer recruitment events.
- Evaluation of courses: Lets students insert all of their community college classes to receive a complete NJTransfer course-by-course evaluation.
