International Applicants

We welcome international students who wish to participate in and contribute to our unique college experience. Bloomfield College is a private, four-year college with liberal arts and professional degree programs. Our mission is to prepare students to attain academic, personal, and professional excellence in a multi-cultural and global society. Our small classes are taught by caring faculty and the International Student Advisor provides a solid support structure. We offer academic and athletic scholarships to international students that meet our criteria.

Housing options include traditional residential accommodations, suite-style apartments, and charming houses. The campus is technology driven with computers available in study centers, classrooms, and the library. All computers are connected to the college network with Wi-Fi capabilities across campus.

International Admissions Process

Application Deadlines

It is important to begin the application process as early as possible. Preference will be given to students who submit their application and all required credentials by the application deadlines.
Fall Semester Deadline: June 1st
Spring Semester Deadline: November 1st

Application Procedures

To complete your application for admission to Bloomfield College of Montclair State University, you must submit the following:

  • Complete Application
  • Basic Evaluation of your secondary school documents (document-by-document) or college/university transcripts (course-by-course) is required. World Education Service (WES) website evaluations are preferred, but any course-by-course evaluation conducted by a certified member of NACES https://www.naces.org/will be accepted.
  • Two letters of recommendation (Optional for Transfer Students)
  • A personal essay (Optional for Transfer Students)

Additional Requirements for First Year Students (under 25 years of age)

  • Official TOEFL Scores submitted directly to Bloomfield College (School of 2044) from ETS with a minimum score of 70 for the internet-based test; or IELTS with a 6.0 is required or Official PTE Academic Scores from Pearson with a minimum score of 48 or Duolingo with a score of 95 or SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of 480 or ACT English score of 22.*If your Country’s official language is English, proof of English proficiency is not required.
  • Official SAT or ACT Scores are not required to be considered for merit based scholarships. Your scores on the SAT (College Code 2044) or ACT (College Code 2540) should be sent directly to Bloomfield College or included on your high school transcript. To locate an international testing center and date for the SAT or AP exams, visit the College Board SAT website. To locate an international testing center and date for the ACT, visit the ACT website.

Additional Requirements for Transfer Students

  • Official TOEFL Scores submitted directly to Bloomfield College (School Code 2044) from ETS with a minimum score of 70 for the internet-based test; or IELTS with a score of 6.0 is required or Official PTE Academic Scores from Pearson with a minimum score of 48 or Duolingo with a score of 95. *If your Country’s official language is English or you have completed a university-level English course from a US institution, proof of English proficiency is not required.

Immigration Requirements for Accepted Students

In order to study in the U.S., international students must be under F-1 status and enter the U.S. with an F-1 Student Visa (Canadian citizens are not required to have a visa). In addition, Bloomfield College of Montclair State University is required by the Department of Homeland Security to determine that international applicants have sufficient financial resources to cover their expenses while studying in the U.S.

To receive your Certificate of Eligibility for NON-Immigrant Student Status, or more commonly known as the Form I-20, you must be accepted to Bloomfield College of Montclair State University and submit all of the Form I-20 requirements listed below:

  • Application for I-20 and Affidavit of Support
  • Affidavit of Free Room and Board: only for students who will be living for free off campus with a family member/friend.
  • Financial Documents: No more than three months old, in English, in the form of a bank statement
  • Passport: Photocopy of the picture pages of your Passport.
  • Visa: If you already have a valid visa (F-1 or otherwise) please submit a copy of it with your passport.

Deadline for I-20 Application Submission

Students outside the U.S. should submit the I-20 application and financial documentation as soon as possible. The deadline for submission of the application and all supporting documents is:

Fall semester: June 15
Spring semester: November 15

Note: SEVIS transfer students inside the U.S. may submit this documentation later than the published deadlines.

Completed I-20 application and supporting documents should be submitted to the Office of International Student Services via email at parksoy@montclair.edu.

Once you have obtained your Form I-20, From Bloomfield College of Montclair State University you will:

  • Visit the U.S. Immigration and & Customs Enforcement website for important next steps.
  • Pay your I-901 SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) fee, mandated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
  • Apply for a visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate.
  • Prepare for your arrival in the U.S. and plan to attend Bloomfield Colleges’ International Student Orientation.
