How Do I Apply for NJ Grants?

 

To be considered for the Tuition Aid Grant (TAG) award, Governor’s Urban Scholarship, Equal Opportunity Fund (EOF) award and NJ STARS II program, students must complete the FAFSA or NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application within established state deadlines including the additional New Jersey State Questions.

 

The Alternative Financial Aid Application is designed to assist students who are considered DACA/Dreamers. Dreamers Application.

 

What are the deadlines for TAG eligibility?

 

The FAFSA must be RECEIVED by the Federal processor (not postmarked) by the dates indicated below to be considered for TAG.

 

If you received a TAG grant during either semester of the 2020-2021 year, HESAA considers you a renewal applicant. The deadline to file a FAFSA for TAG renewal applicants for the 2020-2021 year is April 15, 2020.

 

If you did not receive a TAG award during the 2018-2019 year, HESAA considers you a non-renewal applicant. The deadline to file a FAFSA for TAG non-renewal applicants for the 2020-2021 year is September 15, 2020.

 

If you are a non-renewal applicant and applying for the Spring 2021 semester only, you must file your FAFSA before February 15, 2021.

 

Why do I have to give additional information to be considered for the NJ TAG Grant?

HESAA may request additional information from you and/or your parent(s).  You can check the status of your TAG grant, find out what is required, and submit required documents on NJFAMS.  Please be advised that your TAG grant will not appear on your account until HESAA’s verification process is complete.

 

What is NJ FAMS?

 

NJ FAMS is an online portal for students to see their awards, check their grant status and provide additional information to HESAA. Each student will need to log in and set up an NJFAMS account. NJFAMS is a user-friendly, real-time system

 

Why was I selected for State Verification?

 

In order to determine grant eligibility, HESAA may require additional documentation from selected applicants. The required documents can be found in your NJFAMS account.

 

What are the deadlines if I’m selected for State Verification?

 

HESAA has very strict deadlines for completing State Verification and answering the required additional questions. Failure to adhere to established deadlines could result in the loss of awards. The deadline to complete your State grant records (State Tasks, State Verification, correction, add a college, etc are as follows.

 

If you are a renewal applicant and selected for State Verification the deadline to submit verification documents is November 1, 2019 for the Fall 2019 term. For the Spring 2020 term, the deadline is February 1, 2020.

 

If you are a non-renewal applicant and selected for state verification, the deadline to submit verification documents is November 1, 2019 for the Fall 2019 term. For the Spring 2020 term, the deadline is March 1, 2020.
