BLOOMFIELD STUDENTS FROM ENG 266 RADIO PRODUCTION VISIT WBGO

Armed with iPads, microphones and wide-eyed curiosity, nine communications majors from Bloomfield college made a quest to one of Newark's, world-re-known broadcasting organizations known as WBGO on Wednesday, October 23rd. They were invited guests of award-winning journalist and news director Doug Doyle who took pride in giving the students an in-depth tour of the quaint yet impressive facility at 54 Park Place, right in the heart of Newark, NJ.

"Some of them come in to do wonderful interviews," said Doyle pointing to the dozens of photos that lined the walls of their main hallway. Tony Bennett, Diane Reeves, and Christian McBride are just a few of the famous artists who have come here to share their talent in their intimate sound studio.

"We do live concerts a lot here at this radio station," said Doyle. "And some of the most incredible acoustics that you could have. Really sounds like the CD itself sometimes."

Doyle not only gave students a tour but also tested some students' radio announcing skills at the mic in one of their recording studios. Naomi Exius, Mark Reyes, Brittany Gregory and Ishmael Martinez took a crack at the impromptu test with gusto.

And after a short recording, Doyle then gave them a critique on reading WBGO news copy.

"The more you sound like yourself, the more likely you're going to be conversational."

Doyle, who says he got his start in radio through his love of sports, encouraged students keep practicing like any good athlete or professional. He said that it is through practice,  perseverance and believing in oneself that makes dreams a reality.
