Graduate Certificate in Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Education Overview

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate program is for those who have a bachelor’s degree and want to obtain teaching certification. The program is open to students with undergraduate degrees in the liberal arts and sciences. Additional coursework may be required to meet New Jersey certification standards.

The following initial certifications in teacher education are offered:

  • Preschool through Grade 3 (P-3)
  • Elementary (K-6)
  • Upper Elementary with Subject Matter Specialization (5-8 with dual certification in K-6)
  • Secondary (9-12)

The following endorsements are offered for those candidates who already possess a CEAS or standard teaching certificate:

  • Preschool through Grade 3 (P-3)
  • Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement TOSD (K-12)

Admission Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university, earned with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0.
  • A minimum of sixty (60) successfully completed liberal arts credits in a preschool-through-third-grade or elementary program, with a minimum of fifteen (15) credits completed in the subject area for which the candidate intends to be certified in an upper-elementary-with-subject-matter-specification program, or a minimum of thirty (30) credits, obtained in a coherent sequence, in the subject field of the intended certification.
  • Either passing scores on the Praxis I Core Academic Skills for Educators Test series (in all three areas: Reading 156, Writing 162, and Math 150) or minimum required scores on the SAT or ACT or GRE as set by the New Jersey Department of Education (for initial certification).
