What is a coach?

An individual who is available to assist you in goal setting, time management, problem solving, creating a study plan, identifying success barriers and building self-discipline.  The Office of Advising/ Coaching, Residence Life, CHAMPS, EOF and STAR programs incorporate the coaching model into their work with students. The coaching model is designed to support you in achieving academic success. 
 
Who is my faculty advisor?
Each student who has declared a major is assigned a faculty advisor who specializes in your major area of study. You can determine who your advisor is by logging onto WebAdvisor and clicking on your profile.
 
Course Load
A full time course load is three course units (c.u.) per semester. During the fall and spring semesters students with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and in good academic standing (GPA of at least 2.0) will be allowed to take a maximum of 5 course units (c.u.). Students who are on probation will not be permitted to take more than 4.5 course units (c.u.) per semester. During the summer, the maximum number of course units (c.u.). Academic Probation and Dismissal Policies
Probation and Dismissal are based upon the student’s cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA). For more detailed information please refer to the Bloomfield College Catalog.

Grade Appeal Policy
If you think you have received a final grade you did not deserve than you may appeal that grade within the first two weeks of the next semester. For more detailed information on the steps of the appeal process please see the Bloomfield College Catalog.

Petition Process
A student may petition the Faculty Committee on Academic Standards for the following reasons: grade appeal (only after previous steps of the appeal process have been exhausted), permission to repeat a course for a third time, permission to exceed 18 credits in one semester, and to take courses at another college (when it would otherwise not be permitted). Please fill out the petition form and submit it to the Registrar’s office for processing.

New Jersey Transfer
Bloomfield College is a participating institution in New Jersey Transfer, an online program that provides detailed information on articulation agreements and course equivalencies for New Jersey's two-year and four-year colleges. Students enrolled at, or planning to attend, a New Jersey community college can plan a seamless transfer into Bloomfield College by choosing a program of study and selecting courses that have been pre-approved for transfer. New Jersey Transfer is an initiative of the State of New Jersey Commission on Higher Education and evolved from the Rutgers University transfer pilot program, ARTSYS.

Undeclared Students
Each student must declare a major or area of concentration formally prior to registering for the 17th course. The Career Services office is available for assistance selecting a major.

Transfer Students
The courses you are transferring will be evaluated by an advisor once you have been accepted to the College. If there are courses that need further evaluation you must take a description of those courses to the department chairperson for possible use in your major.
