Welcome from the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs

Dr. Michael PalladinoAs one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the nation, Bloomfield College is the only New Jersey institution to be recognized as a Predominantly Black Institution (PBI) and Hispanic Serving Institution, and is also a Minority serving Institution. More than half of our students are first-generation and are the first in their families to enroll in college. The impact of a Bloomfield College education on our students is clear. We hold the highest success rate among all New Jersey liberal arts colleges and universities in improving the economic standing of our graduates, according to a study by the Equality of Opportunity Project published in The New York Times. The College is also among the nation's top colleges for helping students from low-income families enter the middle and upper class, according to an American Council on Education and University Business Report.

Our mission is to prepare students to attain academic, personal and professional excellence in a multicultural and global setting. Academic Affairs serves to support students and faculty to ensure the excellence of our academic programs, quality of student academic experiences, and ultimately the success of our students and our faculty. Bloomfield College programs provide a rigorous education grounded in the liberal arts and supported by research and scholarship, interdisciplinary connections, and experiential learning.

Our students benefit from a small private-college experience that provides personalized attention and close interaction with faculty, staff and student peers. Bloomfield students work with and learn from faculty and staff who know them by name, and who have an interest in helping them develop personally and professionally.

College faculty are a community of teacher-scholars committed to helping students develop their full potential and dedicated to providing challenging, personalized and transformative learning experiences for all of our students. Another critical part of our success network in Academic Affairs is a great team of professionals in our Center for Student Success, which provides a range of important academic and career support services including: Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF), TRIO Student Support Services (SSS), the McNair Scholars Program, the Center for Career Development and Academic Advising, Office of Students with Disabilities, and the Office of Tutoring, Writing, and Academic Support Services.

In the major and the general education program, students will develop knowledge and skills that will enrich their personal, professional, and civic life. Students learn how to appreciate and analyze the world around them from different perspectives, to express themselves with clarity, and recognize and solve real-world problems. Bloomfield students embrace their responsibility as educated people dedicated to making the world a better place. We also recognize and value that teaching and learning flourishes when each of us is free to express our ideas in ways that recognize and respect our differences, so we celebrate the rich diversity of all members of our campus community.

Despite a pandemic and all of the challenges we face in the region and as a society, it is a great time to be part of the Bloomfield College community. I look forward to leading Academic Affairs into an exciting future for our faculty, staff, students and alumni, and I welcome you to contact me to learn more about the academic programs and our academic community at Bloomfield College.
