Independent Film Screening and Discussion Feb 5th

With funding from the Predominantly Black Institution (PBI) Program Formula Grant, the CHAMPS program at Bloomfield College is hosting an independent film titled From Fatherless to Fatherhood with a discussion with the filmmaker Kobie Brown. The film will be shown at the Van Fossan Theatre at the Westminster Arts Center on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Westminster Arts Center is on the corner of Franklin and Fremont Streets in Bloomfield. The event is free to the public.

The film encourages discussion about the role fathers play in the lives of their children and the importance of the responsibility of fatherhood. Kobie reveals some of the causes and effects of father absence, while providing examples of black men who are having healthy relationships with their children and therefore, their community. The film explores what quality fatherhood looks like; what it means; and why it matters.

The film has screened in various festivals including: The Martha’s Vineyard African-American Film Festival; The Act Now New Voices in Black Cinema; The Charlotte Black Film Festival (Winner Best Documentary); The Roxbury International Film Festival and The Urbanworld Film Festival. The film's creator, Kobie Brown, and the film have been profiled by CNN, Ebony and Essence Magazine.
