Academic Affairs
The Deans’ List ceremony honoring student who received Deans’ List for the 2011-2012 academic year is on Sunday, October 21 at 1:30 pm in the Van Fossan Theatre.

The 1st Annual Faculty/Staff Talent Showcase was a huge success! Thank you to organizers Denise Dennis, Cheryl Evans and Hank Smith and to the rest of the participants and volunteers: Mark Jackson (Master of Ceremonies), Vince Calcagno, Tawn Denise, Kenn Heaslip, Lindsey Robinson, Jim Murphy, Nicole Franklin, Sherrie Calish, Laszlo Marshall, Regina Meyers, Nick Von Hagel (Theatre Technical Director), and special surprise guest, Chris White! Through the generosity of the participants and attendees, we were able to make a donation of $300.00 to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. This year's talent show will take place on Sunday, May 19, 2013.

Accounting, Business & Computer Information Systems
The Computer Information Systems Department has moved to their new location at 2 Broad Street.

Education
Mary Porcelli is the new Coordinator of Student Teaching & Field Experiences assuming the duties of Ken Brino who retired in June, 2012.

Joan Buzick, Education Division adjunct faculty member, will deliver the closing keynote address at the New Jersey Association for the Education of Young Children's Annual Conference. Titled "Thinking of Children", this presentation is scheduled for October 20, 2012 at the Atlantic City (NJ) Convention Center. Joan's work has been in awakening teachers to the importance of appropriate and positive interactions with young students and connecting everyday teacher-child interactions with research on learning and the brain.

Humanities
Dr. Brandon Fralix, Assistant Professor of Writing and Analysis, presented a paper in July at the Council for Writing Program Administrators (CWPA) in Albuquerque and was appointed to the CWPA’s Diversity Task Force. In August, with the help of VP Kwi Brennan and Kathy Guerino, he received a grant from Verizon to train adjunct faculty and writing tutors in the specifics of “lit. review,”, which all WRT 107 instructors will now be assigning.

As part of her Little Brother educational film series, Communications Instructor Nicole Franklin will be presenting a new online interactive community, Mapping Our Pledge to Little Brothers
(www.LittleBrotherFilm.com/MapYourPledge) to the Congressional Black Caucus at their Annual Legislative Conference on September 21 during the Health Education and Literacy Policy (HELP) for School-age Black Children at the Washington Convention Center Room.

In June, Professor of Philosophy, Dr. Richard Hart delivered the paper A Novel Advance in Morality: Rorty and Steinbeck at the Central European Pragmatist Forum Conference in Turda, Romania.

Associate Professor of English, Dr. Paul Puccio published “Keep an Eye on Your Dream: Encores! Presents More than a ‘Concert’ of Merrily We Roll Along” in the Fall 2012 issue of The Sondheim Review.

Natural Science and Mathematics
Using funds from an anonymous donor the Natural Science and Mathematics Division purchased a Glomax 20/20 luminometer. This state of the art instrument, which is capable of detecting and
measuring very low light levels, will be used in biology and biochemistry laboratory courses as well as in independent research projects.

Social and Behavioral Science
Associate Professor of Public Administration, Dr. Glenda Kirkland’s , “Technology and Public Policy: Historical Examples and An Imaginative Use to Promote the Human Rights of Children” was published in August in the text: Public Affairs and Public Policy: New Jersey and the Nation.

Dr. Vânia Penha-Lopes, Professor of Sociology, co-chaired a session on religion and ethnicity in contemporary urban settings and presented a paper at the 54th International Congress of Americanists at the University of Vienna, Austria (July 15-20, 2012). She has also contributed the chapter titled "Where the Heart Is: Family, Work, and my Binational Life as a Black Brazilian Scholar" in Women Warriors of the Afro-Latina Diaspora, edited by M. M. Vega, M. Alba, and Y. Modestin (University of Houston Arte Público Press, 2012)."
