The eve of Commencement is reserved each year for honoring some of Bloomfield’s brightest graduates, as the institution held its annual Baccalaureate and Nurses Pinning ceremonies to begin the spring’s signature festivities on May 20.

The College began the afternoon by officially ushering 26 students into the ranks of nursing alumni, as the Frances M. McLaughlin Division of Nursing held its annual Pinning Ceremony in Westminster Arts Center’s Van Fossan Theatre.

Graduates received their divisional pins during the special midday affair, while three students were given special recognition for their dedication and service in their undergraduate studies. Jenna Szumlicz N’15 received both the Nurse With A Heart Award and the Nursing Faculty Award, while Tara Bognazt N’15 received the Academic Recognition Award. Glo-An Ramos N’15 received the Mary Kuyper Award for her extensive community service efforts both in Bloomfield Township and abroad in Haiti.

In the second event of the day, students were honored for their academic achievements in the annual Baccalaureate ceremonies.

Highlighting students who achieved a high GPA while pursuing honor society membership, graduates received honors cords for earning cum laude, magna cum laude and summa cum laude distinctions. Students also received cords for their work in the institution’s honors societies, with Alpha Chi (all majors), Delta Mu Delta (business), Kappa Delta Pi (education), Psi Chi (psychology) and Sigma Theta Tau International (nursing) bestowing their organization’s highest honor on the group of distinguished academics.

“This is such a special part of Commencement, and to be honored today is something I will always cherish,” said Tysha Crosby-Washington ’15, who received honor cords from Alpha Chi Honor Society and Bloomfield’s Honors Program. “To have the College recognize the hard work of its students in such a formal way is really special.”
