Career Development welcomes Hanjin Shipping for student info session

Bloomfield’s Center for Career Development welcomed Hanjin Shipping America for an informational session offered to all students on Oct. 22, the latest in a series of initiatives designed to provide students with employment opportunities as part of the division’s unique four-year development model.

“The fact that Hanjin has come to our campus to recruit our students is a testimony to the rising stature of Bloomfield students within the employer community,” Center Director Carol Ruiz said of the day’s event.

“One of the goals of our division is to educate students about their career opportunities, and this session accomplished just that. Many of them had not considered global transportation and logistics as a career path, and we are happy that this event has given them another avenue to pursue.”

A division of one of the world’s largest container carrier companies, the organization’s General Manager, Lawrence Burns, presented Bloomfield students with the benefits of pursuing employment with the international corporation. With 6,000 employees in 60 different countries, Burns sees Bloomfield College as a location ripe with young, innovative talent that will help move Hanjin into the future.

“Bloomfield College is in close proximity to one of our regional headquarters (in Paramus, N.J.), but that’s not the main reason why we pursue its students as potential employees,” Burns said of the institution and its diverse student body. “Bloomfield attracts Hanjin because of the Liberal Arts education it provides to its students. It’s so important, because a Liberal Arts education is key to adapting to the multinational and multicultural industry Hanjin participates in. We will continue to welcome students from Bloomfield College who are interested in pursuing careers with our organization.”

The Center for Career Development will hold its next event on Oct. 31, when they welcome Bloomfield College alum Craig Lindsey ’76 for an informational session on International Business career opportunities. The event will begin at 2 p.m. on the College’s campus, in the library’s Shelby Art Room.
