Bloomfield’s Center for Career Development gave students the opportunity to plan for life after graduation on Mar. 25, as the division held its annual Spring Career & Graduate School Fair in the institution’s Student Center.

“We love organizing career fairs because they are an opportunity for students to engage in career discussions with employers right here on our campus,” Center director Carol Ruiz said.  “The world of work comes to Bloomfield College.  The students have a chance to tell employers what they have to offer and learn about the wide range of opportunities available to them, including graduate school. And, many leave with an appointment for an interview, which is always the goal and why we continue to do things like this.”

Nine higher education institutions attended the event, giving students the opportunity to receive information on some of the area’s top graduate programs.  New Jersey institutions Caldwell College, Montclair State University, Monmouth University, Ramapo College, and Fairleigh Dickinson University were represented, with Mercy College and Kaplan Graduate Test Prep School also in attendance.

Participants were given the chance to interact with representatives from 28 organizations during the midday affair, with entities including the Federal Air Marshalls - U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the New Jersey and Pennsylvania State Police Departments present.

“Bloomfield College has a very diverse student population, which fits our mission perfectly and represents the community that we serve,” N.J. State Police Sergeant Cheree Berry said.  “The students come here having already done the research, and they just want to meet us, which speaks to their diligence.  It shows how prepared they are by the school, which is why we will continue to come and recruit Bloomfield students.”

The Center for Career Development will host its next event on April 10, when on-campus student workers are honored at the annual BEST Work Study Awards and Recognition Breakfast.  The event is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
