Three-time Emmy award winning journalist, Jim Axelrod, who joined the Bloomfield College Board of Trustees in 2014, has been named chief investigative and senior national correspondent at CBS. Prior to this appointment, he was the senior national correspondent for CBS News, reporting for CBS This Morning, the CBS Evening News, CBS Sunday Morning, and other CBS News broadcasts and platforms.

“Jim is an amazing ambassador for Bloomfield College and we couldn’t be more proud to have him on our team,” shared Nicole Quinn, Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement. “He deserves all the recognition and success. He has earned each achievement!”

According to, Axelrod, who has earned a Peabody Award, a George Polk Award, and an Edward R. Murrow award for his work, has been with CBS since 1996. He began as a Miami-based correspondent and later served in the Dallas Bureau (1997-1999) and New York Bureau (1999-2006). He also served as CBS News’ Chief White House Correspondent (2006-2009) and was named a CBS News National Correspondent in 2009. From 2012-2016, Axelrod was the anchor of the CBS Saturday Evening News.

Axelrod is dedicated to Bloomfield College and fully believes in the College’s mission. He regularly volunteers his talents to the College, serving as MC at scholarship evenings, moderator at roundtable or panel discussions and, most recently, as Master of Ceremonies at the Bloomfield College Sesquicentennial Gala. The Gala honored his friend and colleague, Bill Whitaker, of 60 Minutes, and raised over $600,000.

“The unique magic of Bloomfield College took a hold of me and never let go,” Axelrod shared last year. “I became a fast advocate, a proud one at that. I often refer to the College as an ‘on ramp.’ The entire mission of Bloomfield College is to provide access to people who aren’t starting out at the same place as some more fortunate. There’s a campus full of people walking around with amazing qualities who just need the chance to unlock their full potential.”
