Bloomfield College Community Volunteers for Knock Knock Give a Sock

For the second year, Bloomfield Human Health Services distributed 60,000 pairs of socks to the needy on Wednesday, April 10. Forty local agencies assisting the economically disadvantaged met at the New Light Baptist Church where 300 cartons of socks were stacked.

Present at the event from Bloomfield College were Trustee Jacquie Colgan, Gabrielle Louis, Coordinator of Service Learning and First Year Student Activities at the Center for Student Leadership and Engagement, and three Bloomfield College students.

"This day was pure muscle work. All morning the students helped carry boxes filled with children and adult socks to cars for organizations," shared Louis.

The socks came from non-profit organization Knock Knock Give a Sock. Its founder, Adina Lichtman, was present to share more about her non profit which is dedicated to reducing the stigma of homelessness. According to the website, socks are the most needed, but least donated articles of clothing to help the homeless.

"Bloomfield College is honored to participate in this worthwhile event. As many of our students are also from families of need, they are uniquely positioned to truly empathize with the needs of the community and are very happy to be here today to assist in your efforts," said Trustee Colgan.

Also present were Karen Lore, the director of the Health Department; Paula Peikes, supervisor of Human Health Services; Bloomfield Council members Wartyna Davis, Richard Rockwell and Nick Joanow; and members of the Bloomfield Fire Department.
