On April 28, the College hosted the Third Annual Student Research Day.
Many of the College community gathered in the Shelby Art Room as students from the McNair Program, Honors Program, and Natural Sciences presented their research and creative capstones in poster format or on laptops.
The students, who will all be graduating this month, had an impressive knowledge base and a real understanding of their fields of study.
For example, the McNair Scholars were presenting research done in their major from the summer prior to this academic year. Research is required of McNair Scholars and is supported by the McNair grant.
The Honors Program students were presenting their honors capstones, which is a requirement for graduation. Honors capstones must have included an interdisciplinary or cross-cultural element.
The Emerging Leaders in STEM (ELS) were presenting research in their major they did with Bloomfield College faculty this year. Some of these students receive scholarships from the Independent Colleges of NJ Organization and NASA to support their academic and research work.
The purpose of high achieving programs like these is to create an academic environment that encourages and motivates Bloomfield College students to really engross themselves in research, shine in their academic work, and reach their full potential as leaders and socially responsible members of society.
"The opportunity to work one-on-one with faculty mentors is invaluable," said Carolyn Spies, Associate VP for Academic Affairs. "It is wonderful to experience our students in the roles of scholar and teacher. The students’ pride in their work was evident. "
