Bloomfield College Athletics will host its annual Garage Sale to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 8 a.m., Bears head softball coach Rocco Constantino announced today.
“This is one of the best fundraisers we have in our athletic department, and I am so happy that we will be doing it again this year,” said Constantino, who also oversees the institution’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) that will run the event. “The support we receive from the campus community is wonderful, and it all goes to a great cause. We encourage everyone to donate and spend some time here on that day to see the type of difference their contributions can make.”
The one-day event will be open to the general public, with all proceeds from the day being donated to Make-A-Wish. Items for sale will include furniture, glassware, collectibles, clothing, exercise equipment and household items, and will be priced to sell.
An NCAA initiative, a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is a group of select student-athletes within an institution’s athletic department that participates in community service and engagement opportunities while providing insight on the student-athlete experience.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that grants the wishes of children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions in the United States and its territories. Bloomfield College and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), an NCAA Division II organization, are continuing a longstanding tradition of donations to the charitable entity throughout the 2014-2015 academic year, with various initiatives taking place at the 14 member institutions.
“I am so proud of our department and of our entire campus community for the effort that goes into making this event a success,” athletic director Sheila Wooten said. “To be able to give a meaningful donation to an organization like Make-A-Wish is a wonderful thing for our department, and our Garage Sale is a tradition I hope lasts for a very long time.”
The sale will be held in the Bloomfield College Gym, located at 170 Liberty St. in Bloomfield, N.J. For more information or to make a donation, contact Rocco Constantino at email@example.com.
