- February 24, 2022 - Masks Optional Starting March 7, and Outside Guests Update
-
Dear College Community,
We are happy to share that reports of positive COVID-19 cases on campus have been very low for several weeks.

- January 19, 2022 - Important COVID-19 Update
-
Dear Bloomfield College Community,
Please know that the State of New Jersey has adopted the recently revised CDC guidelines that move to a 5-day isolation period for individuals who test positive or have symptoms of COVID-19. The attached flier details when to stay home, mask and monitor. The key elements of the new 5-Day Isolation Guidelines are described further below.
In addition, please note that the College is preparing for a potential vaccination mandate from the courts that may impact colleges and universities. In preparation for this potential mandate or the development of the College’s own policy, we ask that faculty and staff begin the process to voluntarily download their vaccination cards. This is currently optional, and not a requirement.
VOLUNTARY UPLOAD OF PROOF OF VACCINATION:
Employees may upload their voluntary proof of vaccination to Human Resources via Confidential Vaccination Record Upload.
Acceptable proof of full COVID-19 vaccination includes:
- The record of immunization from a health care provider or pharmacy;
- A copy of the COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card;
- A copy of medical records documenting the vaccination;
- Acopy of immunization records from a public health, state, or tribal immunization information system;
- A copy of any other official documentation that contains the type of vaccine administered, date(s) of administration, and the name of the healthcare professional(s) or clinic site(s) administering the vaccine(s).
NEW 5-DAY ISOLATION GUIDELINES:
IF VACCINATED:
-If you test positive and have symptoms of COVID-19, start counting the 5-day isolation period on the date of your positive test or the first day of symptoms. The day of your positive test or start of symptoms is counted as Day 0 (meaning, the next day is your Day 1 of the 5-day isolation period).
-If you test positive and start out without symptoms, but get symptoms within a 10-day period, begin the 5-day count again on the day you develop symptoms. The day you develop symptoms is counted as Day 0 (meaning, the next day is your Day 1 of the new 5-day isolation period).
-On Day 6, if your symptoms are gone or are getting better, you may leave isolation but wear a mask until Day 11.
-On Day 6, if you have a fever, continue in isolation until your fever is gone or you begin to feel better, and wear a mask until at least Day 11. Note that fever-free means your fever has been gone for at least 24 hours without using fever-reducing medications.
-If you have close contact with someone with COVID-19, you do not need to quarantine unless you develop symptoms. Even if you don't develop symptoms, get tested within 5 days after your close contact with someone with COVID-19. Watch for symptoms and wear a well-fitted mask around others for 10 days. If symptoms occur, isolate immediately and get tested. Continue to isolate and wear a mask around others until you know the results.
IF UNVACCINATED:
-If you test positive or have symptoms of COVID-19, follow the steps for vaccinated individuals described above.
-If you have close contact with someone with COVID-19, quarantine for at least 5 full days, counting days as described above, and wear a well-fitted mask if you must be around others in your home. Follow with strict mask use for an additional 5 days. Get tested within 5 days after you had close contact with the individual, even if you are asymptomatic.
-After quarantine, watch for symptoms until 10 days after you last had close contact with someone with COVID-19. If you develop symptoms, isolate immediately and get tested. Continue to isolate until you know the results. Wear a well-fitted mask around others.
IF YOU HAVE HAD A CONFIRMED CASE OF COVID-19 WITHIN THE PAST 90 DAYS:
-If you already had your own confirmed case of COVID-19 within the past 90 days, and you have close contact with someone with COVID-19, you do not need to quarantine unless you develop symptoms.
Per the CDC, the new 5-day isolation guidelines apply to the general community regardless of vaccination status. Individuals with moderate or severe illness, those with weakened immune systems and those living in high-risk or group settings may need to isolate longer than 5 days.
Key additional guidance to follow while at home in isolation includes: do not host visitors, stay in a separate part of your house, and use a different bathroom if one is available.
We will continue to monitor the current state of the pandemic and related requirements and guidance, and keep our community informed.
Thank you for your continued perseverance in keeping our community healthy and safe.
Please stay well,
Contingency Planning Task Force
- January 4, 2022 - Important Spring 2022 Semester Update
-
Dear Bloomfield College Students, Faculty and Staff:
As we approach the start of the spring 2022 semester, the COVID Contingency Task Force has examined the prevalence of the Omicron variant and its transmission rates among vaccinated individuals. In doing so, we have made the following recommendations that have been approved by the President's Council:
- Most classes for Spring 2022 will begin remotely on Thursday, January 13, 2022 through Friday, January 28, 2022, with an in-person start date currently planned for Monday, January 31, 2022. Reported cases and the prevalence of COVID-19 in local populations will be monitored and the in-person start date may be changed. A small number of classes (such as lab and studio experiences, clinical experience) will have an in-person component during this time, which may include hybrid delivery (a mix of in-person and virtual class meeting sessions).
- Students should pay close attention to course announcements in Blackboard regarding any changes in class meeting format. Most in-person courses will meet online synchronously during their scheduled meeting days and times. Students will be contacted by their individual faculty regarding whether their course will remain virtual or is one that is moving to at least a partial in-person format. Faculty will continue holding virtual office hours, and communicate with students through email, Blackboard, Google Meet or other platforms.
- Students who have technology needs in order to engage in remote learning, such as the need to borrow a laptop, should submit their request in advance of the start of classes (preferably by Friday, January 7) through the Spring 2022 Student Technology Request Form. Note that there is a charge placed on your student account for laptop loaners that is removed after you return the equipment to the IT Help Desk or purchase the equipment to keep. The laptop loaner charge does not affect your ability to register for classes. Additional technology information may be found under the Information Technology Portal, or you may email questions to helpdesk@bloomfield.edu or call 973-748-9000, ext. 1224.
- Residential students may proceed with their move-in plans scheduled for Tuesday, January 11, 2022. All existing residential living protocols and vaccination requirements that were in place during the fall semester remain in effect, as do the vaccination requirements of student-athletes and nursing majors. Please click here for more vaccination information.
- Food services for all resident students and employees will be available for grab and go only during the remote period.
- The library will remain open on weekdays and evenings. Refer to the library website for hours of operation.
- The majority of previously planned in-person events will be held virtually or will be rescheduled until further notification.
- Employees may individually request approval to work remotely through their area supervisors.
- All College offices and spaces in use will undergo daily cleaning and sanitation using EPA-registered disinfectants with special attention given to high touch areas, as recommended by the CDC.
- Masks continue to be required indoors on campus (with the exception of while eating and drinking), regardless of vaccination status.
- When visiting campus, the LiveSafe app daily health screening survey must continue to be completed in advance of arrival on campus.
- In compliance with the federal vaccination mandate for employers with more than 100 employees, the College will be developing plans for a vaccination or testing requirement. More information about this will be provided as details become available.
We recognize that remote instruction, even for the short-term, is not ideal for everyone, yet the health and safety of our campus community remains paramount in our planning for the spring semester. To help meet these goals, we continue to encourage anyone who is unvaccinated, and medically able to be vaccinated, to do so. And, if you are eligible for a booster shot, please do the same.
Updates for the spring semester are posted on the COVID-19 planning webpage. You may also email questions directly to the Contingency Planning Task Force.
Thank you in advance for your understanding, and please stay well.
Contingency Planning Task Force
- December 15, 2021 - Planning for the Spring 2022 Semester
-
Dear Campus Community,
We sincerely hope this finals week is going smoothly for everyone, especially for our hard-working students.
Below is an update on COVID information that will prepare us for the spring 2022 semester.
- COVID cases among students, faculty and staff have remained quite low all semester. In fact, there have been many weeks this fall where there have been no positive reported cases. This is due to everyone's adherence to the health and safety protocols put into place to protect our community. Thank you!
- We continue to closely monitor COVID cases on campus, locally and regionally and are following local, state and federal recommendations. The federal government's proposed January 4 vaccine requirement for employers with more than 100 employees continues to be challenged in the courts and is currently suspended.
- As we examine trends, including transmission of the new Omicron variant, it is clear that the best protection against severe cases of COVID and its transmission is vaccination. We encourage anyone who is unvaccinated, and medically able to be vaccinated, to do so. And, if you are eligible for a booster shot, please do the same. Your vaccination will help keep our community as a whole healthy and safe.
- For spring 2022, we will continue to require vaccination for residential students, student-athletes and nursing majors. These student populations must provide proof of either a single dose of the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccination (which is considered full vaccination) or at least one dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccination against COVID-19 by Monday, January 3, 2022 or prior to moving into a campus residence facility. All others must be fully vaccinated within three or four weeks after Tuesday, February 1, 2022. Students who do not complete the full vaccination process will be removed from the residence halls. Note: Students who have shown proof of full vaccination prior to the start of the fall 2021 semester are exempt from showing proof for the spring semester.
- Requests for vaccination exemptions must be submitted by students no later than Tuesday, December 21, 2021 to Health Services. Please note that submitting a request for an exemption does not guarantee that the exemption will be approved. Any questions regarding the exemption process should be directed to the Office of Student Affairs at saffairs@bloomfield.edu.
- Individuals with an approved vaccination exemption may be required to comply with additional testing and other preventive requirements. Approved unvaccinated residential students, for example, are required to show proof of a negative PCR test within 72 hours of move-in; and all approved unvaccinated students must show proof of a negative PCR test on a weekly basis. We will provide additional information as individual exemptions are approved.
Updates for the spring semester are posted on the COVID-19 planning webpage. You may also email questions directly to the Contingency Planning Task Force.
Thank you again for your commitment to helping keep everyone safe. We wish everyone a peaceful and healthy holiday season.
Warmly,
Contingency Planning Task Force

Getting vaccinated is an optimal way in which we can help to keep the Bloomfield College community healthy and safe and protect the more vulnerable amongst us. Research indicates that COVID-19 vaccination is safe and effective in preventing COVID-19 disease, especially severe illness.
Please be well,
Contingency Planning Task Force

- August 4, 2021 - Indoor Mask Requirement
-
Dear Bloomfield College Community,
In accordance with recently updated CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommendations, the College will require all individuals to wear masks indoors on campus, regardless of vaccinationstatus, beginning Thursday, August 5.
All individuals are mandated to wear masks indoors, including the classroom, but are exempt from mask-wearing outdoors, in living areas, private spaces or when eating in dining halls.
The College will continue in-person teaching and extracurricular activities. Social distancing precautions will not be mandated at this time.
Over the past year and a half, Bloomfield College has put in place many safety protocols and procedures to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. The College will continue to be guided by federal, state and local authorities, and will make modifications to protocols as circumstances change and requirements are updated.
As we near the start of the Fall 2021 semester, Bloomfield continues to evaluate ways to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 among the College community so that we are able to provide an enriching and safe on-campus experience for all.
We are looking forward to welcoming you back on campus for a healthy and safe Fall 2021 semester.
Stay well,
Contingency Planning Task Force
- July 20, 2021 - COVID-19 Vaccination Required of all Residential Students and Athletes this Fall
-
Dear Bloomfield College Community,
This Fall 2021 vaccination requirement message pertains ONLY to residential students and athletes.
Over the past year and a half, Bloomfield College has put in place many safety protocols and procedures to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. The College has been guided by federal, state, and local authorities, and made modifications to protocols as circumstances have changed and requirements have been updated. As we near the start of the Fall 2021 semester, Bloomfield continues to evaluate ways to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 among the College community so that we are able to provide an enriching and safe on-campus experience for all.
Getting vaccinated is an optimal way in which we can help to keep the community healthy and safe and protect the more vulnerable amongst us. Research indicates that COVID-19 vaccination is safe and effective in preventing COVID-19 disease, especially severe illness.
VACCINATION REQUIRED OF ALL RESIDENT STUDENTS AND ATHLETES
For the 2021-2022 academic year, the College is requiring all students who will be residing in a Bloomfield College residence hall, and all athletes, to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless the student has been granted an exemption from the vaccination requirement (see below). All other students, faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Resident students and athletes may be exempt from the COVID-19 vaccine requirement for medical reasons or for sincerely held religious beliefs. In accordance with the College's Exemption Policy for required immunizations, resident students requesting an exemption from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement for medical reasons must provide a statement signed by a physician explaining why the student cannot be vaccinated at this time. Resident students and athletes seeking a religious exemption from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement must provide a written statement, signed by the student, explaining how the administration of the COVID-19 vaccination conflicts with the student's religious beliefs.
Requests for exemptions must be submitted by Friday, August 13, 2021 to Health Services. Please note that submitting a request for an exemption does not guarantee that the exemption will be approved. Any questions regarding the exemption process should be directed to the Office of Student Affairs.
PROOF OF VACCINATION TIMELINE
Resident students and athletes must provide proof of at least one vaccination (Moderna or Pfizer) against COVID-19 by Friday, August 20, 2021 or prior to moving into a campus residence facility. Students who are taking the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccination are considered fully vaccinated. All others must be fully vaccinated within three or four weeks after August 20. Students who do not complete the full vaccination process will be removed from the residence halls.
Individuals with an approved exemption may be required to comply with additional testing and other preventive requirements. We will provide additional information as individual exemptions are approved.
If you have any questions about this policy, please contact saffairs@bloomfield.edu.
We look forward to seeing you back on campus soon!

- June 16, 2021 - Update on Return to On-campus Work
-
Dear Bloomfield College Community,
As the Contingency Planning Task Force shared in late May, the College will be returning to on-campus work effective Tuesday, July 6.
Please know that the current temporary telecommunications policy will remain in effect until a new remote work policy is announced. In advance of this announcement, individuals should consult with their supervisors to discuss on-campus work expectations and any exception requests. Exception requests continue to be required to be submitted in writing.
As we recently communicated, masks and social distancing are no longer required indoors or outdoors on campus. However, if you are not vaccinated, per CDC guidelines, we highly recommend that you continue to wear a mask. The Waitwhile app is also no longer required for entering buildings, yet may be used for scheduling purposes by certain offices. The plexiglass partitions in most areas of the College will remain in place for the time being.
On June 4, 2021, Governor Murphy signed legislation ending the COVID-19 public health emergency. However, certain Executive Orders remain in place for 30 days from this announcement. This includes health monitoring. Please be reminded that until July 6th, the daily LiveSafe app health screening survey requirement is still in effect for all College community members - faculty, staff and students. The online survey is required to be completed before coming onto campus.
During this transition period of returning to on-campus work, student support services such as those provided through the Center for Student Success; Wellness Center; Center for Student Leadership and Engagement; and the Residential Education and Housing Program will continue to be available both in person and online.
Further details about the fall semester, which will include mainly on-campus classes with some hybrid and online offerings, will follow shortly.
Best wishes to all,
Contingency Planning Task Force
- May 27, 2021 - Return to On-campus Work and Governor's Announcement
-
Dear Bloomfield College Community,
The Contingency Planning Task Force is thrilled to inform the campus community that Bloomfield College will be returning to on-campus work effective Tuesday, July 6.
In addition, masks and social distancing are no longer required, effective May 28.
This announcement comes following Governor Murphy's executive order this week that includes lifting the mask mandate both indoors and outdoors, effective May 28, and the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) confirming with Bloomfield College that the executive order includes higher education. The Governor's announcement also lifts the six-foot social distancing requirement - including in classrooms and residence halls. On Friday, June 4, the general indoor gathering limits will also be removed.
Please note, for employees and students, the requirement to complete the daily LiveSafe app health screening survey prior to visiting campus remains in effect until further notice.
The return of our classrooms to regular capacities is a very welcome turning point in the course of changing health and safety protocols. Further details of the return to campus work will follow shortly, as will details about the fall semester that will include mainly on-campus classes with some hybrid and online offerings.
You may review the full announcement from the Governor's office here.
Best wishes for a healthy and happy Memorial Day weekend in honor of our nation's veterans.
Sincerely,
Contingency Planning Task Force

- The record of immunization from a health care provider or pharmacy;
- A copy of the COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card;
- A copy of medical records documenting the vaccination;
- Acopy of immunization records from a public health, state, or tribal immunization information system;

Dear Bloomfield College Community,
In accordance with recently updated CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommendations, the College will require all individuals to wear masks indoors on campus, regardless of vaccinationstatus, beginning Thursday, August 5.
All individuals are mandated to wear masks indoors, including the classroom, but are exempt from mask-wearing outdoors, in living areas, private spaces or when eating in dining halls.

Stay well,

Assistant Dean for Student Life/Athletic Director
