Planning for the Spring 2022 Semester

Bloomfield College is excited to welcome you to the start of the Spring 2022 Semester which will begin remotely on Thursday, January 13, 2022.

The safety and health of our students, faculty and staff is our primary concern as we plan for the start of each semester. Below is some key information:

- Most classes for Spring 2022 will begin remotely on January 13, 2022 through January 28, 2022, with an in-person start date currently planned for January 31, 2022. Reported cases and the prevalence of COVID-19 in local populations will be monitored and the in-person start date may be changed. A small number of classes (such as lab and studio experiences, clinical experience) will have an in-person meeting component during this time, which may include hybrid delivery (a mix of in-person and virtual class meeting sessions).

- Students should pay close attention to course announcements in Blackboard regarding any changes in class meeting format. Most in-person courses will meet online synchronously during their scheduled meeting days and times. Students will be contacted by their individual faculty regarding whether their course will remain virtual or is one that is moving to at least a partial in-person format. Faculty will continue holding virtual office hours, and communicate with students through email, Blackboard, Google Meet or other platforms.

- Students who have technology needs in order to engage in remote learning, such as the need to borrow a laptop, should submit their request in advance of the start of classes through the Spring 2022 Student Technology Request Form. Note that there is a charge placed on your student account for laptop loaners that is removed after you return the equipment to the IT Help Desk or purchase the equipment to keep. The laptop loaner charge does not affect your ability to register for classes. Additional technology information may be found under the Information Technology Portal, or you may email questions to helpdesk@bloomfield.edu or call 973-748-9000, ext. 1224.

- Residential students may proceed with their move-in plans scheduled for January 11, 2022. All existing residential living protocols and vaccination requirements that were in place during the fall semester remain in effect, as do the vaccination requirements of student-athletes and nursing majors. Please click here for more vaccination information.

- Food services for all resident students and employees will be available for grab and go only during the remote period.

- The library will remain open on weekdays and evenings. Refer to the library website for hours of operation.

- The majority of previously planned in-person events will be held virtually or will be rescheduled until further notification.

- Employees may individually request approval to work remotely through their area supervisors.

- All College offices and spaces in use will undergo daily cleaning and sanitation using EPA-registered disinfectants with special attention given to high touch areas, as recommended by the CDC.

- Masks continue to be required indoors on campus (with the exception of while eating and drinking), regardless of vaccination status.

- When visiting campus, the LiveSafe app daily health screening survey must continue to be completed in advance of arrival on campus.

- In compliance with the federal vaccination mandate for employers with more than 100 employees, the College will be developing plans for a vaccination or testing requirement. More information about this will be provided as details become available.

- Vaccination Confidentiality. Be mindful of health status confidentiality. Do not ask individuals, students or colleagues, whether they are vaccinated or further add to speculation if you hear that someone may have been exposed to or has COVID-19. Instead, redirect all commentators to contact saffairs@bloomfield.edu when concern is related to students and human_resources@bloomfield.edu when related to employees.

Planning for the Spring 2021 Semester

Effective Monday, February 15, Bloomfield College will open a limited number of courses and sections for in-person instruction.

If your course is listed as LEC, HYB or LAB, your instructor may choose to offer in-person classes. Students will be contacted by their individual faculty regarding whether their course will remain virtual or is one that is moving to at least a partial in-person format.

Students should also pay close attention to course announcements in Blackboard regarding any changes in class meeting format. As we continue to monitor public health conditions throughout the semester, additional courses may be adjusted to provide in-person instruction.

At the onset of the COVID-19 crisis in March 2020, Bloomfield College has been working hard to provide guidance and resources that reflect the requirements set forth by the Governor’s Office of the Secretary of Higher Education, the Centers for Disease Control, the New Jersey Department of Health, and our local health agencies.

To assist incoming students, we waived or reduced application fees and enrollment deposits. We developed and implemented a fall reopening plan that met the required health and safety protocols. This included developing enhanced online and hybrid courses and making logistical adjustments in our campus environment for implementing social distancing and other safety measures. We rose to the unprecedented challenges and are now providing guidance for the spring semester.

The safety and health of our students, faculty, and staff is our primary concern as we plan for the start of the next semester.

We are committed to working closely with our new and returning students to help ensure that current circumstances do not derail their academic and personal goals. As with the fall, Bloomfield College is prepared to offer our amazing students an exceptional academic experience this spring. We continue following national and state safety recommendations and mandates and to adapt our environment accordingly.

This page is dedicated to sharing up-to-date information with you. The Contingency Planning Task Force at Bloomfield College developed a comprehensive restart plan to help ensure that students, faculty, staff, and administrators remain safe and well in this new normal in which we are living. The plan continues in effect for the spring, and will continue to be updated as necessary to remain in line with Governor Murphy’s guidance and executive orders for New Jersey. Wishing everyone a healthy and safe semester!

Restart Plan - Updated 8/5/2020

Planning for the Fall 2020 Semester

At the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, Bloomfield College rose to this unprecedented challenge and, after extending spring break, moved all classes online on Wednesday, March 18. Additionally, to assist incoming students, we waived or reduced application fees and enrollment deposits.

Since March, Bloomfield College has been working hard to gather resources and knowledge we can use in the midst of a global pandemic. Bloomfield College is equipped to persevere, and this crisis will not stop us from moving forward!

The safety and health of our students, faculty, and staff is our primary concern as we plan for the start of the semester.

Bloomfield College has every intention to reopen campus this fall with enhanced online and hybrid course offerings under social distancing and safety measures, provided the State of New Jersey meets all appropriate benchmarks set forth by Governor Murphy as part of his reopening plan. All the same, we are committed to working closely with our new and returning students to help ensure that current circumstances do not derail their academic and personal goals.

Bloomfield College is prepared to offer our amazing students an exceptional academic experience this fall. We continue following national and state safety recommendations and mandates and adapt our environment accordingly.

This page is dedicated to sharing up-to-date information with you. The Contingency Planning Task Force at Bloomfield College has developed a comprehensive restart plan to help ensure that students, faculty, staff, and administrators remain safe and well in this new world in which we are living.

The plan will be updated regularly to remain in line with Governor Murphy’s multi-stage approach to re-opening New Jersey. We will continue to provide  updates as the fall term approaches and could not be more excited to welcome everyone back.
