Bloomfield College of Montclair State University Media Communications Instructor Jason Torreano has been recommended by the Peer Review Panel of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and World Learning for placement on the Fulbright Specialist Roster for a tenure of three years, ending on April 12, 2027.

The Fulbright Specialist Program coordinates opportunities for highly qualified U.S. academics and established professionals to engage in two- to six-week, project-based exchanges at host institutions across the globe. The role of Fulbright Specialists is to share their expertise, strengthen institutional linkages, hone their skills, gain international experience and learn about other cultures while building capacity at their overseas host institutions.

“I am thrilled to be on the Fulbright Specialist Roster, and am honored to have been recommended,” said Torreano. “Ideally, I am hopeful that a project will materialize with a host institution that is exploring social entrepreneurship as a means to generate their own revenue, diversify their funding streams, increase their sustainability and reduce reliance on more traditional, often precarious funding models.”

For Torreano, this means signing on to a Fulbright Specialist Program (FSP) Portal where countries confirm their ability to host Specialists under an “Open Projects” tab. World Learning also sends periodic email updates to individuals on the Roster highlighting open projects and reminding them to visit the FSP Portal to express their interest in serving as the Fulbright Specialist for any projects.

As a candidate on the Fulbright Specialist Roster, Torreano is eligible to be matched with projects designed by host institutions in over 150 countries globally. Host institutions design projects in priority areas and ultimately select which Specialist best meets their needs. If matched, Fulbright Specialists are strongly encouraged to continue to work with host institutions in the years following their initial exchange, creating opportunities for ongoing cooperation and consultancies.

“We are incredibly proud of Professor Torreano for being selected for the prestigious Fulbright Specialist Roster. This well-deserved recognition is a testament to his expertise, dedication to global engagement and commitment to sharing knowledge across cultures,” said Tammy A. Castro, interim dean of Bloomfield College of Montclair State University. “As a Fulbright Specialist, Professor Torreano will have the opportunity to make valuable contributions to host institutions worldwide, strengthening international academic cooperation and bringing back insights to enrich our own campus community. We look forward to hearing he has been matched with an institutional project where he will undoubtedly make a positive impact.”

Matched Fulbright Specialists receive round-trip, economy-class airfare, a $100 transit allowance, enrollment in a limited health benefits program, and a $200 daily honorarium from the U.S. Department of State. In addition, the host institution provides lodging, meals and in-country transportation, either through monetary or in-kind contributions, throughout a Specialist’s full in-country stay.

The Fulbright Specialist Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by World Learning.
