Bloomfield College will bring prospective and current students together to make a unique and important impact in the community Nov. 16, as the institution will hold its first “Community Service Experience” on the campus grounds.

A partnership between the institution’s Office of Admission and Center for Student Leadership and Engagement (CSLE), the hybrid event will allow both current and prospective students to engage in various community service activities throughout the afternoon event, which will run from Noon to 5 p.m.

Prospective students will be given the opportunity to earn documented community service hours, which could be used to obtain the College’s Community Service Scholarship should they decide to enroll at the institution.  Instant Admission Decision options will also be available for interested students throughout the afternoon.

Participants will have the opportunity to impact several organizations during the day’s activities, including Miracles for Mateo, an initiative that provides snacks to families while children are undergoing treatment in local hospitals.

Students will also help prepare food for the Sandwiches for Bridges Outreach Program through a culinary donation from campus provider Gourmet Dining Services, as well as craft holiday and get-well cards for U.S. troops overseas and children in local hospitals.  Partakers will also impact the Bloomfield College campus, participating in a campus-wide cleanup as well as the winterizing of the school’s Student Cooperative Garden in conjunction with the College’s Greenhearts Student Club.

A diverse institution in Bloomfield, N.J. that features a student body of 2,145 students, Bloomfield College has recently been named among the best National Liberal Arts Colleges in the nation in U.S. News & World Report’s 2014 “Best Colleges” rankings.  Offering over 60 majors and concentrations, the four-year, private institution will welcome a new state-of-the-art, 84,000-square-foot residence hall in the Summer of 2014, doubling the school’s on-campus resident population to nearly 600 students.

“There is no better way to show prospective students what it’s like to go to school at Bloomfield College than to invite them to campus for this unique first-time event,” Director of Admission Nicole Cibelli said of the new program.  “It is unique initiatives like this that help show students what a small, private college can offer them.”

“We as an institution are constantly looking for new ways to make an impact in our community, and our current students are extremely passionate in this area.  This event will show prospective students what we do to give back, and hopefully it is a culture they will want to be a part of long after they participate.”

Instant Decision appointments will be held from 10 a.m. to Noon, preceding the event.  For more information on the event or to sign up, visit www.bloomfield.edu/service
