Eight student-athletes earn CACC All-Academic Team honors

Eight Bloomfield College student-athletes have been named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Spring All-Academic Team, in results released by the conference office June 4.

Seniors Ceran Messam (men’s tennis) and Katie Aumann (softball) each received the accolade for the third time in their decorated careers, while fellow seniors Angie Yoshizu (softball) and Toni Coleman (softball) earned the honor for the first time in their tenures at the institution. Juniors Justin Eclavea (baseball), Blas Polanco (baseball) and Kelly Stites (softball) appeared on the team for the first time in their athletic careers, while sophomore Kyle Murzyn (baseball, pictured) received the honor in his first year of eligibility.

In order to be named to the CACC All-Academic team, recipients must have participated in a CACC championship sport in the spring. They must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, be a student-athlete at their current school for at least two semesters, and achieve a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.50 or higher through the spring semester.

A total of 155 student-athletes from the CACC’s 14 member schools across six different sports earned a spot on the team, 35 more than the spring 2013 installment. The total represents a record number of honorees since the conference began sponsoring the program in 2004-2005, with the group featuring an average GPA of 3.70.

“I am always especially proud of our student-athletes who receive this type of recognition, because it shows how much they are doing away from the playing fields,” athletic director Sheila Wooten said. “Our student-athletes are students first and foremost, so to see this many of our athletes make this team is a tremendous achievement. They embody what all of the members of our athletic department should strive to achieve.”
