Our Education program combines classroom learning with real-world teaching experiences, preparing you to inspire future generations of learners.

The Department of Education is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). You may also read a copy of the latest assessment report. In October 2021, the Education program was accredited by CAEP for seven years.

Education Facts



Classes have a hands-on approach to help students understand abstract concepts, solve problems and develop critical thinking skills.


Students will observe, interact and teach under the direction of a cooperating teacher through Clinical Experience and Clinical Practice opportunities.

Middle School with Subject Specialization (Gr. 5-8)

The Middle School/Subject Specialization endorsement can be added to the Elementary and Secondary/Subject Area Education Initial Certification. All course work remains the same as for the Secondary/Subject Area Certification.  There is one additional course for Elementary Certification:

EDC 314 The Development of the Pre-Adolescent and the Adolescent Learner and Implications for Teaching

Teacher of Students with Disabilities

(Added to Early Childhood, Elementary, or Secondary Education Initial Certification)

The Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement requires students to take four (4) additional courses to all required courses for the Early Childhood, Elementary, or Secondary/Subject Area Education Initial Certification.  Students seeking this endorsement do not take EDC 320 in their Initial Certification sequence. except for EDC 320 and the following four (4) courses:

EDC    322 Instructional Planning & Assessment for Students with High Incidence Disabilities

EDC    323 Instructional Planning & Assessment for Students with Low Incidence Disabilities

EDC    324 Consultation & Curriculum Adaptation for Students with Special Needs in Inclusive Settings

EDC    325 Classroom Management
