Adam Castro, Vice President for Enrollment Management at Bloomfield College, will be visiting local high schools in the coming weeks to personally help students earn money toward college.

Castro will visit KIPP Newark Collegiate Academy on Wednesday, May 25 (3:45 - 5:00 p.m.) and Bloomfield High School on Thursday, June 9 (7:45 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.) to promote the College's partnership with Raise.me and dive into the world of "micro-scholarships."

"Micro-scholarships" are granted to students throughout their high school career, rather than at the end, for their achievements in school.

For example, starting as early as their freshman year, students can earn:
  • $100 each year of perfect attendance
  • $300 for each extracurricular activity
  • $700 for each A in a core or fine arts course

Bloomfield College is the first college in New Jersey to collaborate with Raise.me, a social enterprise focused on expanding access to higher education, especially among low-income and first-generation students.

Raise.me was developed in response to the fact that most scholarships and grants today are awarded by colleges at the very end of high school - after a student has already done well or not, applied to a college or not, and been accepted or not - which is often too late to impact a student's college ambitions or choices.

Following a brief presentation, while at each school, Castro will introduce students to Raise.me and have the students sign up and start earning scholarships on the spot.

This is all part of Bloomfield College's ongoing effort at cost transparency and affordability.  Earlier this week, Castro was a guest host on Higher Ed Live. His webinar outlined the benefits of Raise.me and the value of micro-scholarships. You can watch the webinar here.
